Benefits

Freshly prepared meals made from good quality ingredients (local and organic where possible) are the cornerstone of a healthy diet. The food we make at Local Food Links, and how we source it, has a number of benefits across the community.

For children

Our schools have told us that children are better able to concentrate after eating our lunches. A balanced diet is vital for development, and with a healthy two-course lunch in their tummies, children are all set to learn and grow.

For the over 50s

Nutrition is important throughout our lives, and especially so in older people. We develop our menus to be full of nutrients and fibre – and flavour!  Lunch clubs are also a great opportunity for people to get together and have a good catch-up over some tasty food.

For schools

Children who are well fed are often better behaved and more engaged, which make lessons more effective and easier for teachers. For every meal a parent buys, a proportion of the cost goes direct to the school to help pay lunchtime staff’s wages. We think food education is a really vital part of every child’s learning, too.

For the local economy

We buy from many local suppliers and producers, putting thousands of pounds into the local economy every month. We also employ over 25 people from the Bridport and Blandford areas.

For the environment

Our meals use local produce, are made locally and are delivered locally. That means we are very economical with our food miles. Compare that to other school meals in the UK, which are made in industrial quantities in the East Midlands and shipped out to all corners of the UK.
