Rick Stein ‘Hosts a School Chef’ from Local Food Links

Local Food Links chef Dan Staple will be taking a day off from cooking school meals in LFL’s Bridport kitchen and instead will be working in Rick Stein’s Sandbanks restaurant.

This exciting opportunity comes as part of LACA’s (Lead Association for Catering in Education) ‘Host a School Chef’ initiative which is firmly established as one of the most popular events in the school catering calendar. The promotion offers school chefs the opportunity to spend a day in the kitchen of some of the most exclusive restaurants in the country, working alongside some of the most celebrated chefs in the catering industry, demonstrating the breadth and depth of talent of today’s education caterers.

Dan, who has worked for Local Food Links for 9 years, describes his role as “rewarding”. He loves working as a school meals chef and cooking nutritious meals for the children. He found his day at Sandbanks to be an “incredible experience, the orders were continuously coming in and I hit the ground running” and commented he had a “brilliant day, everyone works extremely hard to produce the amazing dishes and was it good to see and experience how different kitchens operate.”

Local Food Links provides freshly prepared nutritious school meals to 50 schools across Dorset and its neighbouring counties and is passionate about feeding children well so they can learn at school and develop positive lifelong eating habits.
